Inventory Aisle/Sort code - Sorting picklist by Location

Hi Guys,

I am using AX 09. I am trying to sort our Picklist by Location. So far I have updated location Sort Code with numbers like 1 - 20. By doing this the picklist is printing in the different order to the SO being entered, however it is not completely sorting the way I numbered the locations.

Just wondering, if there is anything that is contributing to mismatch? Do I need to fill in Sort Code under Inventory Aisle too?

Any lead or any document that I can read for this will be appreciated.

Thanks Much

Parz

    Hi Parz,

You haven't told us exactly how many Aisles you have and if you started with sort number 1 for each Aisle or not. Also provide information about the current and the expected sort result.

RE: Inventory Aisle/Sort code - Sorting picklist by Location

    Hi Andre,

I am trying to do this for a particular warehouse which has 27 Aisles, However, 1 Aisle has multiple locations. So far I have numbered them per location not by Aisle. For instance, if I have 5 locations in Aisle 1 then, I have numbered those 5 locations with 1-5 and 6 to a different location in Aisle 2.

Before I did this change, The picklist appeared the way SO was keyed in so WH staff had to go from 1 location to another but now, it is not appearing the way SO is keyed but not sorting in any way (Neither ascending or descending). I would like it Picklist to appear either ascending or descending based on locations.

In the meantime, I have also tried to number Picking Area in Location Table and then Under Set up in A/C Receivable are under Forms -Form Sorting - Picklist - Picking area. However this is not working either..

    Hope this explains better

    Hi Parz,

Are you creating your pick lists from 'Shipments' in the Inventory module, or from Sales orders?

    Hi Parz,

    Any logic to the order?

The system can auto generate locations. If you can use this it will probably fix it...

The idea is that each Isle is numbered and the locations are numbered sequentially based on this. Do note that you can reverse your isle ordering if you go up one isle and down another.

In my opinion Isles are to be numbered as streets. 1,3,5,7... on one side and 2,4,6... on the other.

The job is placed under periodic in inventory mngmnt.

    Hi Fredrik,

The system auto generate the locations, however it print the order the SO is entered at the moment.

So Under Periodic, I have selected Sort Code and run the batch job. Can you please explain what will this do?

PS - I am doing this is Test Environment not live.

Also Do I need to select any parameters before running to batch job??

My feeling is that you won't be able to get the sorting you want if you are printing the picking list from the sales order. If you want to sort your picking route, you'll need to use WMS II / Consolidated picking functionality, which uses the 'Sort code' to which you refer.

    Hi Parz

Did you find any solution on this issue?

Check under the form settings and see if there is a parameter. The sorting job uses the aisle and locations alphanumeric values to give each location an incremented number on sort codes.
