Business central print issue-report download

Hi all
 
We are currently experiencing problems in Business Central where reports are either not downloading or printing properly. The issue happens from time to time and seems to affect multiple users in our organization.
 
Has anyone else encountered similar issues recently? Any insights, workarounds, or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, we also get this issue.

    So what happens is:
    1: User opens sales order / Invoice / Picking list
    2: User clicks print/send print confirmation
    3: Once you click print or send to and its supposed to run it does not work.
    4: The popup opens that usually opens and as soon as it closes nothing download or prints...

    This happens then we close and reopen chrome then most of the time it works (For 10 minutes or 10 hours) its very random...
    I am realising this is not a caching issue or wifi issue as this is happening by more of our branches...

    It seems like a connection failure file upload/download.
    At the moment we keep reloading business central to get around this issue

    There have been a lot of reports from other users with similar errors so it seems like a bug, what version is your Business Central?

    Hi,

    Intermittent report downloads and print failures can be disruptive, especially when they affect multiple users across the organization.

    This issue often stems from a mix of browser behavior, printer setup, and report layout rendering. Here are a few practical steps to help isolate and resolve it:

    • Try switching browsers. Some users report issues with Firefox or older versions of Edge, while Chrome and the latest Edge tend to be more stable for report rendering and downloads.
    • Check if the issue is layout specific. If certain reports fail while others work, the problem may lie in the RDLC, Word, or Excel layout used. Exporting the dataset to XML or Excel can help validate whether the report is returning expected data.
    • Review the Printer Selection setup. If you're using direct printing, make sure the printer's name is correctly mapped and validated in the Printer Selection table. ForNAV has documented workarounds for bypassing validation in certain versions.
    • Monitor report limits. BC has built-in thresholds for row count, merge limits, and execution time. If your report exceeds these, it may fail silently or timeout.
    • Consider telemetry and diagnostics. If you're on SaaS, you can enable telemetry to trace report execution and identify bottlenecks or failures in the rendering pipeline.

    Hi,
     
    Intermittent printing or download issues in Business Central are often related to browser, session, or server-side settings rather than the application itself.
     
    Recommended steps:
    > Clear Browser Cache / Try a Different Browser: Issues often occur due to cached scripts or cookies.
    > Check Report Layouts: Ensure the RDLC or Word layout used isn’t corrupted. Try using the standard layout as a test.
    > Verify Printer / PDF Settings: Confirm the default printer or PDF handler is accessible and functional.
    > Test in Another Environment: If possible, test the same report in a sandbox to determine if it’s environment-specific.
    > Enable Client-Side Printing / Download Logging: This can help identify if the failure is on the client or server side.
    > Update BC & Extensions: Ensure your environment and all extensions are up to date.
     
    If the problem persists, opening a support ticket with Microsoft may be necessary, especially if multiple users are affected simultaneously.

    Yes, there are reports related to PDF downloads and report preview in the latest BC 26 version. I would recommend opening a support ticket with MS or a partner to investigate the issue further.

    Workaround is to log user out of BC and back in, works for many cases reportedly
