Assigning roles to a AX user with an API

Hi all,

we want to roll-out an identity and access management system IAM (like One Identity or Okta) and want to assign roles within D365 FinOp via API. In the future this IAM platform should provision users and roles (and duties) to the back end systems like D365 FinOp within an Oboarding / Offboarding workflow. We don't want to manage this assignment in D365 FinOp anymore. Unfortunately no IAM provider has a connector to D365 FinOp who is able to do that.

Is that possible ? If yes, which APIs would be helpful for that ?

Any ideas are appreciated.

I know it's not what you're asking for, but are you aware of the automatic role assignment in F&O?

thanks for this hint. I will check your proposal. If its complete automatically based on business data it might be an option.

Hi Peter,

It was very kind of Ludwig to mention my blog. The best blog you can start with is How to easy setup automatic role assignment as this also has references to other blogs I wrote about this topic in the past.

It also contains a brief explanation with a reference to another blog how to maintain security access using Azure AD only. The Azure AD option has some disadvantages which are also mentioned in the blog.
