Fade away function in animation?

I'm doing animations in 3Ds Max that I intend to include in Guides. The problem is that the animation itself works, ie the object moves. But I have also added the function that the object should fade away/disappear gradually (so it will not disturb the technician when performing a task) but that function does not work, neither in 3D viewer nor in Guides.

I've been in contact with the 3Ds Max forum that does not seem to be able to solve that problem. So I wonder if there are limits to that effect in these applications?

Thanks for help

Hi Martina, thank you for the excellent question! I reached out to one of our 3D engineers for guidance - but it seems we are cannot animate properties of materials. From the GLTF readme file:

    • glTF supports articulated and skinned animation via key frame animations of nodes' transforms.
So for example you can shrink an object to invisibility but not fade. Also from the readme file:

    • Note: glTF 2.0 only supports animating node transforms and Morph Targets weights. A future version of the specification may support animating arbitrary properties, such as material colors and texture transform matrices.
This may not be the answer you wanted, but does it explain the behavior you are seeing?

Thank you so much for the excellent answer.

Not only did you answer my question but also came up with an alternative way to solve the problem.

This way works well and is about the kind of behavior I was looking for.

    Thanks again

I also wanted to add that the Operator has the ability to show/hide the 3d model using the 'eye' button on that's attached to the tether: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/operator-holograms-off

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

When I did a project during the summer, the operators found this function a bit disturbing as one can accidentally touch the eye.

In the current project, I intend that technicians should not have to press so much and instead this (disappearance of objects) should be handled automatically
