Preferred Timezone

Hi All,

How can we set the preferred timezone per company/legal entity instead of per users?

The client were working has multiple office/company across the globe. Users can handle multiple company but the transaction date/time is always defaulted to his/her RDS server date/time. AOS servers has different timezone from RDS. They preferred that when working for a particular company, the date/time stamp must be the same as what being setup on Legal Entity timezone.

Hope you can advise how can we handle this. Thanks.

In cases where you deal with timezones in code, you could replace DateTimeUtil::getUserPreferredTimeZone() with DateTimeUtil::getCompanyTimeZone(). For UtcDateTimeEdit controls, the only timezone preference you can set is User and No Conversion. Neither it going to do what you want.

I believe that trying to use company timezone instead of user preferred timezone isn't a good approach. To implement your requirement, I think the easiest way would be programmatically changing user's preferred timezone based on the company he's logged into.

It usually makes better sense that people set things in their timezone (and let AX to convert it to UTC), instead of having to calculate time from their timezone to some other timezone in their heads. That's why the default implementation looks how it looks.

    Thanks Martin for the feedback.

In our case, i think they confused more if they using their local timezone when doing transaction. For example

UserA in Phillippines hires an employee for London. Phils to london has +8 hours differential. UserA enters the employee start date at 2/24/2015 12:00am for the London company, thinking that it will be london time. London Employee starts to report on the office at 6:00am but cannot login because his account is not yet active.

Another example is reports, if UserA generate reports for london, the date/time will be based on Phillipine time instead of London time.

We will try your last suggestion and set the user preferred timezone based on company he choose to. In any case, if you can provide some sample scripts to achieved it, it will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Martin

Can you please elaborate on how the Preferred Time zone for legal entity or user works please?

Does setting the preferred time zone effectively determine the differential of my preferred time and UTC?

So changing my preferred time zone will not change the time I see when I transact because that will always be my current time but the recorded UTC will change.

    Thanks for you help.

Cam, you might want to consult Dates, times and time zones on Technet first. But yes, user preferred time zone sets the offset from UTC for display in forms and reports.
