SSRS Reports with temp/inmemory tables - What is the maximum number of fields?

Hi guys

I remember hitting a limit on the maximum amount of columns that SSRS can handle with a data provider (RDP class).

If i remember correctly, that was around 35-45 fields. I am not completely sure though.

This is forcing me to split into several datasets and use the ineffecient sub reports.

And no, i cannot use grouping in this case as there are multiple entities in the dataset.

Apparantly it's not possible to filter datasets based on a value in the parent matrix/group.

Do you guys know what the estimated column limit is?

Maybe a little more context on the datasets:

    I have 3 datasets: ProdOrder, ProdOrderAttributesPart1, ProdOrderAttributesPart2

They all have a ProdId to link them to eachother. ProdOrder is containing multiple ProdOrders and im already grouping on ProdId to be able to handle multiselect in listpages and multi-prodorder report.

So depending on what ProdOrder im visualizing in the current page, i'd need to filter the underlying datasets which is not possible with matrixes as all submatrixes are forced to use the same dataset the parent matrix uses.

In this case i can use subreprots with a parameter but we all know these are very slow.

    Hi Tim De Lobelle,

There was old issue about 254 columns max but it looks like fixed https://fix.lcs.dynamics.com/Issue/Resolved?kb=2702746&bugId=311883

Looking at resolution it's exactly the same what you proposing - add new data sources.

Odd, i have about 80 fields so in theory i dont even need the other 2 datasets and subreports..

I remember vaguely that AX didnt bother me at all until i was ready with development and started testing.. and i remember i was pretty p*ss*d off i had to redo everything because of that limit :-)

    Hey Tim De Lobelle,

Could you please update us with your findings if you will run into fields limit again ?
