I am trying to update a contact with additional information as they pass through a customer journey. How can I achieve this? Does a journey have this functionality out of the box or does it require a workflow/power automation?
E.g. contact completes for, then enters journey, I then want to update contact fields such as Source Campaign.
Did you end up building workflows as a work around. This is a considerable weak point of the Dynamics Marketing platform.

No, customer journey doesn't have this feature to directly update contact's information. You could create a workflow to do this, and then run this workflow in customer journey.
