Removing AOT Icon from AX 2009 Toolbar

All:

Hoping you might be able to help me resolve an issue I'm encountering with security in AX 2009.

Executive Summary

In particular, we are looking to make a 'Power User' type of role which will have broad 'full-control' permissions to the application (largely full-access throughout with the exception of certain Finance areas (GL/Bank/AP), Security and AOT).

While we've successfully restricted access to the needed Finance and Adminstration (Security) areas via both Menu and table-level security, we have been unable to successfully restrict access to the AOT icon in the AX 2009 toolbar.

Detail

Since we started creating this role with a base of 'full-control' throughout, we're not quite sure what is still enabled which is providing this AOT icon access.  Since we don't want this 'Power User' to have the ability to access/directly impact the core tables or to complete any development functions, we need to have the AOT fully restricted before moving the new role to our Production environment.

Your thoughts on how to remove access to the AOT icon?

We have a resource who is rather familiar with the structure of the permissions menu (Administration > User Groups > Permissions), so detail as to the specific location of this security key, etc. is welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Please let me know if you require any clarification on the above.

Regards,

Geoff

    Geoff,

Try this: In the user group permissions for your power users group, using the 'security' view, set the 'Development' security key to 'No access'.

I am unable to find a menu item that allows direct control to the AOT menu buttons, but they do appear to be controlled directly by the Development key.

    Todd:

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

I'll send this along to our Security Developer and see if it works out.  Will be sure to report back with findings.

    Thanks,

    Geoff

    Todd:

Looked into this proposed approach with our Security Resource this AM, wanted to provide an update.

Upon review, shutting off access to the 'Development' security key removes access to the entire AX toolbar, not just the AOT, as I believe you noted in your initial reply.

Since there are other valuable pieces of functionality in the toolbar that we want to preserve (e.g., Export to Excel, etc.), will need to keep looking into isolating what specific item drives access to the AOT Icon in the Toolbar.

During our review, we had the following thought, but this also didn't appear to work:

    -  Set No Access to 'Open application object in new window' under 'Development' (which is enabled such that the Toolbar is still available).  However, this still allowed the User to open up the AOT Menu.

Please let me know if you have any questions on the above/our approach.

All - Has anyone else encountered/resolved this issue in AX 2009?

    Thanks,

    Geoff

    Todd:

Upon further review, the solution you proposed will work out just fine for us going forward.

I was under the impression that hiding the 'Development' Toolbar by setting 'No Access' to the 'Development' Security Key would remove the AX Toolbar from all Forms.

However, upon review, this is not the case.  The AX Toolbar (New, Save, Delete, Document Handling, Export to Excel, etc.) remained throughout the rest of the application, it was just the Development Toolbar at the top of the main workspace that is removed.

Thanks for your help, this one had us stumped for a while!

    Geoff
