Lead scoring model questions

Posted on by 107

Dear Community,

I have questions in regards to the lead scoring in D365.

1. As communicated on the documentation here: Create lead scoring models (Dynamics 365 Marketing) | Microsoft Docs  "Date Range: Enter a date before which scorable events won't be counted."

Questions: Does this means that when I select "Date Range = 1 year ago" it counts one year from the moment I activate the scoring model ? -
OR does it imply that each day forward moves the last date of the Date Range to 1 year ago?
AND is it possible that some leads can loose their points tomorrow if the custom date range gets selected to 1 year from now?
AND what Happens with the scoring model that I created in 2020 with "date range=1 year" when I will be in 2022?

2. Each Condition lane can have 1 or multiple child conditions.

Questions: What type of relation do those child conditions have? Is it an "AND" or an "OR" relation ?

I am aware of the expression being an AND as mentioned in the documentation here: Create lead scoring models (Dynamics 365 Marketing) | Microsoft Docs But it does not mentions the relation between the child conditions of a same parent condition.

AND also if it is an "OR" relation, does this mean that a person visiting a page of child condition 1, gets the 10 points AND when visiting child condition 2, gets again 10 points?

Thank you!

    Hi Catermina,

Since I can't see the exact conditions you've set, you'll need to do some experimentation.

If you feel that there is an OR relationship between the two child conditions, then you can remove one of the conditions that you think should have scores and keep the one that shouldn't and see if the results change.

If the retained condition still triggers a score, there should be a problem with the setting of the condition.

Also, based on your description, the score trigger condition should be a visit to a webpage, and you can also find the contact information for the visit in the insights panel of the specific webpage to determine if the number of visits is correct.

    RE: Lead scoring model questions

    Hi Nay,

Thank you for your reply. I tried to test with 2 newly created pages. I created 2 webpages from scratch, hidden from menu and everyone else.

I tested the child condition but it seems as if something is not working correctly, because it seems as if the relation between the child condition is an "OR".

Moreover, I created the new webpages less than an hour ago, so in theory no one should be able to visit them ( besides the fact that they are hidden from menu and google and everything else) so how it is possible that my lead score is giving points?

See here, lots of leads have been assigned to points - although it is nearly impossible that 100+ people have browsed this page in the past hour.

I am not sure why this is happening, what am I missing here?

    Thank you!

    RE: Lead scoring model questions

    Hi Catermina,

    1. If you select "Date Range = 1 year ago" it counts one year from now no matter when you go live this model.
Is it possible that some leads can lose their points tomorrow if the custom date range gets selected to 1 year from now?  - Yes, If their scoring conditions had occurred a year ago.
In 2022, the scoring model that you created in 2020 with "date range=1 year" itself will not change, but some of the scores it gave before will be subtracted because of the time change.
    2. It is an “AND” relationship within the child conditions.

For example, I set up a parent condition which contains two child conditions. Both of them are triggered when a certain link is visited. One of them has a one-day time limit and the other does not.

When they are both existing, go live this model and no lead can be scored.

If the child condition with the time limit is deleted and the model goes live again, some of the leads can be scored.

If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.

    Best Regards,

    Nya
