Budget model and submodel

Dear all,

I am working on budget model and submodel for D365 FinOps version 10.0.20. I created a budget model called FYBUDGET (mother) and add some sub-models FY21, FY22 (children) to the main model.

When I create new budget register entry, I choose the budget model is FY21, FY22 to register budget value for these children models.

In my thought, when I go to the Report Definition (Report Designer), column definition, the mother model FYBUDGET should be shown for me to choose.

However, in reality, only the children sub-models are shown. I refresh the report cache and data mart already but still FYBUDGET is not there. The mother model only appears if I come back to D365, create new budget register entry and choose FYBUDGET as the budget model there. This doesn't make sense to me.

1. If every year when user create new budget, and they just can choose FYBUDGET (mother model) in the budget model field, so, how system knows that entry belongs to which sub-model?

- It can be based on the time, but what if user have many budget version belongs to different sub-model at the same time?

2. If my understand is correct that when create budget register entry, user should choose the children models as their budget model, so why the mother model is not shown in the Report Designer? Did I miss any steps here?

It would be much appreciated if you could help me with these questions.

Thank you in advance.

Amy.

    Hi Amy,

I have seen this requirement but never use this function.

What I have done is created only one Financial Budget.

Why do we need a Budget model for each year?

    Solution:

    1. Create Only one final budget model.

    2. Post Transaction in the same model with Proper Posting date.

We can use the same model for multiple years.

Let us know if this helps.

    Thanks,
