I am trying to find the RMA history specific to a given item number. What is the best way to do this?Thanks!

I assume that as the RMA generates an order that you can see in open sales that once it's credited it would be viewable in invoice lines.
I am pretty certain you should be able to filter the invoice line form (using advanced filter) to display lines by return order and from there you could search by item number.
I will check this theory now also myself and let you know shortly ;)
Ok, I actually got this to work in open sales order lines, I applied the filter as per the below:
