Is there a utility or easy way to build a report for unit sales volumes by general product posting groups?

The needed information is presented in Value Entry table (5802). You can drill down to Value Entries from the item card and clear all filters (alternatively, run table 5802 if you have access to development environment). There you can filter date range, type of operation (Item Ledger Entry Type = Sales), and select needed General Product Posting Group. You can export this data to Excel and buildup a Pivot Table by General Product Posting Group.
Alternatively, you can design a simple report with the same logic.
