AX 2012 Contoso Demo Data for SQL Server 2008 not R2

I have seen AX 2012 Featured Pack Contoso bak file for SQL Server 2008 R2 in PartnerSource but none for SQL 2008 not R2, even knowing that AX 2012 works perfectly well on both DBMS.

Does anyone knows how could I upload the data in a safe and correctly way.

I have thought in sql scripts and dat def exports, but they are very expensive, not only in time but in data space.

Please any advice would be great.

Thanks.

    Sebastián,

I think the Contoso demo DB [DemoDataAX.mdf] is NOT SQL version specific, provided that you are using a suported SQL version. I deduct this because I recently downloaded and installed the demo DB on a box with SQL Server 2012 (64-bit) SP1.

The only "minor" surprise was that Help/ About showed: 6.0.947.280 AX2012 Cumulative Update 2. I was expecting 6.0.947.862 AX2012 Feature Pack instead. I haven't went through the Initialization checklist, but so far, so good.

Hi Arturo, first I would like to thank you the answer.

As I have seen DemoDataAX is not an mdf file, but instead is a .bak file which is a Backup file. The backups in MS SQL are made from a DBMS like MS SQL 2008 or MS SQL 2008 R2. Then when you want to restore that backup if you don't have the same version where the backups were made you will be in the same situation than me. Just an example: If the .bak file was made in MS SQL 2008 R2 you can restore it in that version , and newer versions like 2012, but never in prior versions.

More over you can't downgrade the MS SQL from R2 to non R2, and the upgrade in production environments are very difficult.

The only way I found to solve this is to make sql scripts with the schemas and data but this is way too expensive in space, allocating more than 15GB. The other way is to make dat and def one to one for the companies in Ax.

What is releventat here is that Ax 2012 works fine (and Microsoft have it in the systems requirements white papers) in SQL 2008 not R2, so it would be very handy for all developers around the world to have a .bak or scripts to use with minor versions than R2.

    Please any support from Microsoft.

    Thanks.
