BOM Consumption / Picking List

Hi,

I need AX to calculate how many boxes are needed for a specific item to be stored into. Example: All boxes have a 2 piece capacity, so when we have a (1) item order AX needs to calculate 1 box is needed, when we have a 2 item order AX still needs to know only 1 box is needed (because the box has a 2 piece capacity). When you have (3) pieces, 2 boxes will be needed and so on.

Thanks in Advance!

Hans

While the step consumption approach you describe will work, its not really the intended use of that functionality.

If you produce in low volumes of e.g 1-10 cases per order then it might be viable, but what if you produce 100,000, or decide to introduce different pack size options - then you have a lot of data maintenance.

I would expect to set a 0.5 case per item, and to put a round up to 1 for the case

the n if you raise a production order for  e.g 9 then mrp should plan 9 x 0.5 = 4.5 and round  up the calculated number of cases to issue to 5 cases.

That's is the way the logic always worked when there was no Process module option e.g. for calculating how many pallets needed- which has to be always a whole number.

    Hi Christoph/Guy,

I had already tried all of the options you provided to me and in the end was able to make it work using step consumption.

This works perfect for this problem!

    Thanks again,

    Hi Hans.

It`s not clear to me why 0,5 production order quantity is 1 piece. But maybe there is a customization in your system. In addition it seems in your system it is allowed to have commas in the pieces unit. If it is always the same logic (50% of the pieces is the production order quantity) the setup must be changed like this.

in the article bom you have to change the "per series" field to 1 and "Rounding-up" to "Quantity" and "Multiplies" to 1

    best regards

    Christoph

    Hi Hans,

I think you're nearly there. On the 'Setup' tab of the BOM line, set the 'Rounding-up' to 'Quantity' and the 'Multiples' to '1.00'.

RE: BOM Consumption / Picking List

    Hi Christoph,

First, thank you for taking your time to try and help out!!

This is how this item was setup from the beginning but still I see it trying to order in halves instead of whole numbers.

    3630.2.png

The line for 1.50 is a (3) piece job - the line for 1.00 is a (2) piece job - the line for .50 is a (1) piece job

As an extra bit of information, I am creating these jobs from sales orders explosions to mimic as closely as possible what is happening in the LIVE environment.

    Hans

    Hi Hans.

Do you really have quantity = 1 and per series = 2? This is necessary to define for 2 pieces of the product you need 1 piece of the raw material.

    2781.2.jpg

If have prepared this example in my standard contoso test environment and it is calculated as axpected. In this case the production order quantity = 1 piece. If i enter production order quantity = 2 it is still one piece of raw material. As soon as I have to produce 2 pieces the calculation result will be 2 in the field "remaining quantity"

    Hi Christoph,

This is how its currently setup and its also "Piece (PC) to Piece (PC)" so there are no conversions needed. However I'm seeing shop travelers with 0.5 (PC)piece instead of 1 (PC)piece like it should be.

RE: BOM Consumption / Picking List

    Hello Hans.

Please have a look on the field "per series" in the BOM line. If you enter 2 the logic will be as needed.

    Best regards

    Christoph
