AX Unit Conversion

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am facing a challenge with a client. The client is into shoe manufacturing, They buy leather and make shoes. When leather is bought it has got two units .

1 Piece ( counting of leather happens in piece)

2. Sqft ( Value of leather is in Sqft and all issues happen in Sqft)

Leather is bought in piece with sqft being the measurement used for the piece. 1 piece may be 10 sqft of leather and another piece may be 20 Sqft of leather. Now this measurement being non standard how to configure this in AX. They generally do stock counting with piece but they value leather based on Sqft and also issue leather to production in Sqft.

Kindly help me in giving a solution to this problem.

Santhosh Kumar R

    RE: AX Unit Conversion

    Hi P.Subramanian,

I agree with Muhammad Saad's reply. As the unit conversion varies by product dimension, it is recommended to create different products. However, it is not same as ability to handle multiple UOMs. Multiple UOMs can be handled in AX2012 using the catch weight feature from process manufacturing. However, as I understand your scenario, I would recommend to create different products by size.

    Hi Saad,

    Thanks for your reply.

As per the discussions in the above thread and on searching the net,  I understand, there is no way to handle multiple UOM for same product.

I hope, Microsoft shall take care of this issue in their future upgrades/ releases.

    Thanks!

    P.Subramanian

    Hi Subramanian

In my opinion for each different tiles rather then using dimensions create separate products, as Unit of Conversions cannot be defined on Dimensions level.

    RE: AX Unit Conversion

    Dear Mr Santhosh

Hope you have received a suitable answer to your problem.

Mine is a simpler problem, narrated below.

    Hi

In AX 2012, multiple product variants can be generated using the Product Master. But it appears, the unit conversion for the Product Master can be set only for once.

We have a scenario, where we Purchase Floor Tile. These Floor tiles are having different usage (Floor Tile, Wall tile, Bathroom tile etc.,) with variety of colors (white, Yellow, Sky blue etc.,) and in varying sizes (1 feet X 1 Feet, 0.5 feet X 0.5 feet etc.,).

Hence, the Tile is configured as an item in Product Master.

Now, the Purchase unit for the Tile is in square meter whereas the sale unit and the inventory units are in numbers. It is essential to establish the unit conversion for each of the sizes, (say 1 tile of size 1 feet X 1 feet 1 square feet tile is equal to 0.0929 square meter,    whereas 0.5 square feet is equal to 0.04645 square meter).

Hence please guide for configuring unit conversions for each variant in product master.

    Thanks,

    P.Subramanian

    Hi

Will come back with full detials, but wanted to ask you one think

When you put in your example total on hand at the end of each line

I guess each column is already refelecting totals converted to each and every UOM

    Item---------------------------OnHand1----------------OnHand2-------------OnHand3

    RM0001----------------------100 pcs                  20 kgs                 21 meters
