If I am experienced with GP management report writer will it help in a NAV environment?
Yes, if you know how to use Management Reporter for GP, you'll be able to use in for NAV. Formatting, creating reports, etc. is the same. The difference is in the integration. The front end will look and act the same for both ERPs. MR will only work with NAV 2009. It is not available for any version after that.
