PCF Gallery

Just looking to get some advice on PCF Gallery.

We are looking for some controls for our D365CE environment, mainly due to deprecation by Microsoft. One of the suggestions is to utilise the PCF Gallery. However I have some reservations on how we handle support of these controls.

With the controls made available by Microsoft, if anything changes with them, Microsoft would be reporting that they need replacing or they'll hopefully fix the issues. My understanding, if we start using PCF Gallery controls we would need to monitor the PCF control wiki for any changes (more admin work) as we wouldn't get automatically notified. Also, the is no guarantee the controls deployed are going to be supported further than their initial release. Is this correct?

Would I be correct if utilising PCF controls from the gallery, you get the advantage of many types of controls, but with the cost of guaranteed support?

Thanks both.  Your answers have been very helpful. I just want to make it clear I'm not in any way being critical of the PCF Gallery and it's a valuable resource.  We have utilised it previously, but before going down the route of adding further controls wanting to double check my understand on the support of these controls.

    Hi,
I am the maintainer of PCF Gallery, I add some notes related to your questions.
PCF Gallery only hosts PCF controls where the source code is available (mainly they are hosted on GitHub) so a developer or an end-user can check what the control does internally.
Some controls on PCF Gallery has an indicator "MANAGED SOLUTION AVAILABLE", this means a PCF control can be installed with a managed solution (and eventually uninstalled) without compiling the source code, this is useful for end-users without development background.
There is an advanced search page on the site (just click on the "search" on the top) where it's possible to search controls with some filters including the one related to managed solution.
PCF Controls linked inside PCF Gallery are not supported by Microsoft and often not supported by the authors (remember that the controls are open source and free to be utilized) so it's up to the author if and how the specific PCF control is supported.

My suggestion for end-users is to try the PCF control is a non-production environment and if it works as excepted and is complaint with the company then it can be utilized inside a production environment. If the PCF control stops to work you may contact the author (usually by opening an issue on their GitHub explaining with details the problem) or hire a developer to modify/update the PCF control (as the source code is available).

    Hope it helps

    Hi,

    Yes.
The Power Apps component framework gallery is a collection of code components created by the Power Apps community.
Users can upload their own PCF controls here.

Sometimes some third-party APIs are introduced into the control.
If the API is updated, this requires timely updates by the control author to ensure the normal operation of the control, but user side cannot know these updates.

    Best Regards,
    Dengliang Li
