Number sequences: Numbers with status Free not used

We have a number sequence for purchase invoice vouchers, continuous=Yes. There are several numbers in the action list with status Free. But if I create a new purchase invoice these numbers are not used, but it is taking the "next number" which is higher.

I have read several topics about number sequences, but not found a solution... Who can help?

    Ok, then try the following.

    Make sure that the status list is empty.

    Then reset value in the next field from 4339 to 4338 and generate a new journal line.

    This should ensure that this number is reused.

    Not sure how this happened and why but this should do the job.

    Note:

    If you want to ensure that AX creates continuous number sequences you might want to use the number allocation at posting parameter, which assigns a temporary number sequence once you create the journal but replaces this temporary number sequence at the time you post with the number sequence specified in the journal. This should ensure that you run into similar problems in the future.

    Where is this number sequence setup in your parameters?

    Is it linked to the invoice voucher line in the AP parameter number sequences?

    If so, can you check whether the 'reuse number' checkbox is activated?

    Restart is a custom field but is used for batch numbers and is not related to this.

    If I delete 4338 it does not reuse 4338.

    If you delete the number 4338 from the Status list with Alt+F9, does AX use this number the next time you create an invoice?

    Regarding your number sequence I have a question about the restart parameter right below the 'next' field. I have never seen this parameter before. Is this something that has been modified and that might be related to the issue you have?

    I deleted the action list. But when I create a new transaction next number is taken, not old unused numbers:

    The numbers will be picked automatically next time .

    Probably try ensuring that the status list is empty then log off and log on again before you create a new transaction.

    If it does still not work, please send some additional info/screenshots that show your number sequence setup and illustrate the issue.
