Test email error using SMTP -> please check the "Send as" permissions

Hi guys,

I'm setting up Email parameters for D365 FO, we want to use SMTP but using the default Office365.com like this ->

But when testing using the test email ->
I received error message below:

Unable to send email as 'xxx@abc.com' from the 'noreply@abc.com' account, please check the "Send as" permissions on the 'xxx@abc.com' account.

I read about the needs to do some setup in Office 365 Admin as follows:

Send email from another user's mailbox

  1. In the admin center, go to the Users > Active users page.

  2. Select the name of the user (from whom you plan to give a sending permission) to open their properties pane.

  3. On the Mail tab, select Send as permissions.

  4. Select Add permissions, then choose the name of the person who you want this user to be able to send as.

  5. Select Add.

So, in my situation, I need to ask the administrator of the company's Office365, go to Users > Active users, and look for user account : xxx@abc.com

and doing the point 3 and adding permission to "noreply@abc.com"

If it is true, and I have 100 users, I need to go to each users to add permission to this "noreply@abc.com" ?

Can I ask whether my understanding is correct ?

Thanks.

    Hi,

I believe the option, to "send as"", will only have to be enabled only for the "main" email account (noreply@abc.com) and not for every single user account. That won't make any sense.

    H    i Anton,

Thanks. this is the one I need someone expert's advice. Honestly, never setup this email nor use email functionality of D365 FO. But as I'm dealing with client, just need to make sure.] while currently I don't have testing environment and no access to Office365 Admin.

Noted, so I need to ask my client's Office365 Admin, to go to the email noreply@abc.com"  account and go to its Mail's tab, add Permissions by adding all the necessary email account over there. Hopefully there is a function to import multiple user account over there as well, that would be nice.

Thanks so much for the help.

    Hi,

I think you need SendAs on all your user accounts.

They need the permissions to "Send As" the email account that is sending the mails, ie xxx@abc.com. I think you need to explicitly set this on every user who needs permission to send an email as the xxx@abc.com account.

That's my understanding too. But it doesn't mean you have to do it manually for every user; many things like this can be scripted. Namely, you can utilize Add-RecipientPermission in Powershell (see Manage Send As Permissions using PowerShell for more details).
