Hi ,

I have a requirement to export LedgerTrialBalance report to PDF or CSV or Excel.The back-ground to this report,

We use Ax 2012 R2 CU7 as the base version. I have made this report a cross company report as part of business requirement. All the customization are going as per functional specifications.

I am able to generate the report on the screen for entire financial year.I am able to generate the report to PDF when i execute the TB with some filters like (Fiscal period , main account etc) . If i try to execute entire Trial balance for one full year for one single legal entity in any of the other rendering extensions i get an unhandled exception in the event viewer.

I have used print destinations and tried to save it to file . This failed

I have tried to save it some file format once report loaded to Viewer control. This failed throwing error 503

I have checked event viewer logs. Apart from the un-handled exception logged as a warning there is no information that could point me to the exact issue.

I have checked the SSRS execution logs and found this error

"An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."

Upon further searching in SQL forums i witnessed that lengthy reports time out when they are saved to file format. No resolution in those forums even. I am just checking if any one has faced this kind of issue and were successful in tackling this.

Please note: Its an absolute requirement from my costumer that entire year's trial balance to be saved and also that we are able to open the report on screen rendering.

Request to provide the valuable inputs .

Hi Venkatesh,

In your question it is not clear if you were able to adjust some timeout settings related to the reports. You mentioned that there was no resolution, but did you try to adjust some settings? Can you update on this?

Have you also tried Management Reporter to create a similar report?

Hi Andre,

Thanks for your prompt reply!

I looked at the time out and max request lengths for the report in report server and time out setting on the report data source even.

They are all set to a very high values so either they never time out or they time out after 4 hours.

Report is rendering onto screen in 10 minutes. But to save it to file like PDF or Excel is crashing after 30 minutes.

Management reporter is already extensively used by the customer. But irrespective of ability to render this from management reporter the customer needs the trial balance report to execute with detailed design for entire year.

The screen execution showed at-least 10500 pages of data.

Hi Venkatesh,

Just a stupid thought... Would there be a limit on the pdf file format itself? Can it contain that many pages?

Have you also tried to create an Excel or HTML file? This just to see if this works properly.

Hi Andre,

I was able to export it to XML and CSV .(Did this overnight and got the saving option in the morning) Size of the CSV files is around 69 MB.

This means excel, PDF size ideally will be greater than 100MB, so i think the SSRS server webconfig will explicitly dump the execution when the request goes beyond 97 MB as this is default setting in the SSRS 2012.

I will try to set this to 300MB as maxrequestlength on the config and retry saving to PDF over the weekend and share the result

Hi ,

Yes when the max request length is increased by 3 folds to have 300MB and time out to have 180000 seconds , I am able to generate the report in PDF using batch in a single server environment.

Seems like a issue related to request time out and memory out on report server.

Hi,

my report has more than 20 page and when i try to export to PDF it works in one machine , but it is not working in another machine. Both machine uses Sql server 2017 latest version and all the configuration are same for both machine. but still i am not able to identify the problem. i tried to change the max request length as 100MB , but still no luck. Could you guys suggest me some way to overcome this issue.
