How to delete unused item code?

(0) ShareShare

Previously I created one item code and used it in some purchase transasctions

but now the item code has not been used any longer.

Is there any way to delete the unused item code or make it disappear from the item code list?

    Hi Samerjai,

When there are transactions, you cannot delete an item.

You can create a security policy (XDS) to hide not used items. These items should then have a unique reference like a status field. You can have a look at the blocked fields on the item master. Also in the past at a customer we created a special item group without the ledger setup, so also posting would fail. If you are also using this approach you could hide all items for this item group.

Note that the security policy is bypassed by the system administrator role. Also a certain user or some users needs to be able to view those items to be able activate them again when required.

Another option is to create filters on lookup forms and the product form and list pages.

In fact XDS or creating filters is a customization and requires development skills.

hello, thank you for your reply.

XDS sounds good but I dont have much development skills.

is it difficult to hide not used items by creating a security policy?

For item group, I am thinking to do so, however i have a concern if there will be an impact to the exisiting transactions.

If no, what i should do is to create a special item group without ledger setup and move all unused items to this item group. is it correct?

I've also used the Coverage group (ReqGroupId) to identify items that are "marked" as obsolete, which is a field that appears directly on InventTable and also drives planning behavior (often you want a different kind of planning for obsolete items anyway).

    Hi samerjai,

Creating a security policy needs to have some understanding. You can learn a bit using some walkthroughs on MSDN. msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh272121.aspx

When you hide the products there will be no impact on existing transactions.
