Re-install Marketing to point to a new portal

I have a client who had originally installed a production Portal into DEV and it was never released from DEV to point to PROD once they went live. Here is what I think needs to happen but I want to make sure that re-installing Marketing to point to the Portal in PROD will not erase any data:

1. Remove the Portal from DEV to release the license

2. Re-install Marketing in PROD and choose to Use Dynamics Portals and use the Portal that was released in step 1

Is this the correct approach? And if so, is there any risk of data loss?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello pdr469 ,

If you want to use the same portal url as DEV you need to reset the portal from Portal admin Centre to release the url.

If PROD already has marketing, you can set up the portal for the environment using the released portal url.

If its an event portal, you will have to create it from the Set up Wizard page.

    Hi pdr469,

Do you mean to migrate the portal from the development environment to the production environment?

You may need to use the Power Platform CLI or the configuration migration tool to transfer portal metadata from the source environment:

Right. This the approach I was going to suggest but given it’s a production environment and this involves a reinstall, can you confirm it will not involve data loss?

I ended up finding the answer to this. The answer is there is no data loss outside of the actual portal reset. The portal is reset and then you have to re-publish any pages you had previously created.
