Inventory Pick - Negative Output

We are now using Inventory Pick functionality, but not Inventory Put-Away functionality. When we try to post negative output, we get the message "Warehouse handling is required . . . ". What is the correct procedure? From the Inventory Pick, I see Prod. Output is a Source Document, yet I can't seem to get it to work.
