Hi,

Any idea on the following :

Is it mandatory to maintain Azure SQL or Azure data lake in the same tenant of D365F&O for embedded power BI and independent power BI reports?

Regards

I have the same question (0)

    Hello Sayanika,

There are two sections that you are referring to:

    • Azure SQL For Embedded PowerBI and Independent PowerBI Reports: (Same tenant)
PowerbI reports should use the entity store capabilities of Dynamics 365 F&SCM. The entity store refers to the data entities that reside in D365 F&SCM. The entity store needs to be refreshed (both the batch job and Refresh Entity Store) to get data into the AxDW database that is a SQL Azure database (In case of UAT, GOLD, FT or Production environment).
The Azure SQL database (AxDW) resides on the same tenant as D365 F&SCM, if you want to connect the independent PowerBI reports (references the AxDW database) or Embedded PowerBI reports to D365 F&SCM. If you are planning to setup a BYOD databae that you want to connect to from PowerBI or PowerBi Embedded, then you can have an independent tenant on which the BYOD SQL Azure database resides.
      (References: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/analytics/export-entities-to-your-own-database?toc=%2Ffin-and-ops%2Ftoc.json)
    • Azure Data Lake: (Can be on the same tenant or can reside in a different tenant)
The entity store capabilities can be extended to a Azure data lake store and the Azure Data Lake store Gen2 can have its own standalone subscription.
       (References: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/data-entities/entity-store-data-lake)
Refer to the section Entity store data in Azure Data Lake (full push).

Hope this helps. Open to answer additional questions, if any.

    Thanks a lot Navneeth.

So that means, I can have my D365F&O in ABC tenant and Azure Datalake in XYZ tenant. And If I want to move data from AxDW to the data lake (using full push) it is possible .Becauseit will be authenticated through App registration credentials (App ID, Secret etc).

Similar should be applicated to any azue sql database I believe. Say if I have any azure SQL DB in PQR tenant , then, using azure data factory I can transfer the data to azure data lake which is in a separate tenant (XYZ).

    Is my understanding correct?

    Hello Sayanika,

A] The answer is Yes. If D365F&SCM resides in ABC tenant and the Data Lake resides in XYZ tenant, then

you need to do the following configurations to move the entity store data into the Data Lake.

         1.  Create a storage account

         2.  Key vault and application secret keys + App registration setup

         3.  Configure the System parameters in F&SCM to move data into the Azure Data lake after enabling

              the data connection.

Through the above mentioned steps, the data that is refreshed in the entity store is published into the

Azure data lake. Haven't checked if it publishes data into the AxDw database too, with the System

parameters configuration for Data Lake enabled.

Similar should be applicated to any azue sql database I believe. Say if I have any azure SQL DB in PQR tenant , then, using azure data factory I can transfer the data to azure data lake which is in a separate tenant (XYZ).

A]  BYOD is an independent SQL Azure database. This database can reside on an independent tenant. You can extend the Entity store capabilities further and extract data into a BYOD database.

I have not used Azure data factory to process data to and from an Azure Data lake, so not sure how it works. I have worked on setting up the Azure data lake setup with D365 F&SCM entity store.

    Thanks,
