Power Bi Connectivity

Posted on by 5

I am working to develop Power Bi reports for activity in our Dynamics Sales instance. Our company was recently acquired, and we are operating in two different domains in the interim.

I have no trouble using Power Bi connector in the legacy instance to connect to the forthcoming D365 instance using the PBI Dynamics Online (legacy) connector. I am having some significant trouble identifying what tables should be queried for the needed values.

Previously, I would have used XRMToolbox to accomplish this, but that doesn't seem to connect to the forthcoming instance. I suspect it is because of the authentication requirements in the forthcoming instance.

Is there another procedure to navigate the tables in such a manner? Similar to XRMToolbox?

    HI,

If have UI access to CRM instance you can apps.powerapps.com and select solution and under solution you can see all the tables, and under tables you can see all the metadata.

I totally understand your frustration with identifying the tables for querying the values you need in the forthcoming D365 instance. It can be tricky, especially with the authentication requirements. Have you tried checking out the Power BI community forums? There are tons of knowledgeable folks there who may be able to help guide you in the right direction. Also, have you considered taking some Power BI training courses? I got certified as a Microsoft data analyst through Power BI training and it was a game-changer for me. It really helped me to navigate the program with more confidence and ease.

I found a workable solution. I was able to identify the needed values from a known report view.

Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Customizations -> Customize the System -> Entities -> Opportunity -> Views

Double Click on the known Report name. Double click on the column header names to retrieve the listed "Name:"

This value should be the same way it is reflected on the tables pulled through Power Bi.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have been unable to find any answers in Power Bi Community. My question really revolves around D365. I am looking for a way to identify the values and tables I need within D365 so that I can connect them in Power Bi. The connector in Power Bi is not intuitive enough to navigate to the needed values.

    Hi,

It would be helpful if you can move the thread to Power BI Section.

    https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Forums/ct-p/PBI_Comm_Forums

Meanwhile please check below link. which will help to give more info about tables:
    https://technologyblog.rsmus.com/microsoft/connection-options-for-getting-dynamics-365-sales-data-into-power-bi/

As for i now after authentication, Power BI list all tables then you have to select the required once and you need to load data in power using Direct Query or Import.
