I want to use third party apps to get news alerts as an example on companies we have as prospects. I know other CRMs have such tools. Is there a "store" or place where I can look at apps to use?

you can use InsideView for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to get the company and prospect news within the dynamics crm.

The two best places to look for potential solutions are

The Marketplace as you have already mentioned

and codeplex which hosts free/open source solutions and project for Microsoft products

I know there is the marketplace, but - to be clear - I am looking for something like Google New Alerts for companies we follow. Anything like that?
