Dynamics GP sql collation

Hi,

What is the effects of using Latin1_General_CI_AS sql collation in GP databases.I have set sql with this collation on a test environment and it seems like its working fine. All my GP databases were in Latin1_General_CI_AS collation and therefore SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS was throwing an error when running utilities so no new gp client installation was possible.I did a new sql server installation with the Latin1_General_CI_AS the same as my company databases backups and now the error is gone and I was able to do client installation.I don't know if this has negative effects on GP as Richard Wheeler once indicate that the two supported collation are

SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

Latin1_General_BIN.

I tried to change my backups to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS but the procedure ended up in futility.

Kindly advise about the consequences of Latin1_General_CI_AS.

RomRyan

    Hello RomRyan,

As it is working with no issues then you can live with this, but you need to keep in mind that your environment is not supported from Microsoft support team, they don't have your collation at their test environment.

You can change your company databases collations, but you might need to drop all collation dependence objects and recreate it using the new collation, I would suggest you connect your partner asking how to get this changed and they can help.

I don't know the exact different between both above mentioned collations.

But, you should consider below points while installing SQL for GP>

    1. If you installing new sql server for GP on any machine, you can use either one of those collation.

    2. If you installing new sql server for GP with restoring GP databases from anywhere, you should install the SQL server with the same collation of original GP database collations (collation of where you copied the GP database).

    Hope this helps!!!
