Sales Accelerator Segments

Does anyone know how segments work for sales accelerator.  We understand it is based upon a modified record field in future (e.g. after the segment is active) but it is not clear if:
  1. A record can go through more than once
  2.  How long the record stays in segments, if it is ever removed

So the answers could limit use, for instance we have a # of days post oppty close so if they close a new oppty while the counter starts again if they entered the segment and through the connected sequence say are sent an email and complete the sequence, would they re-enter the segment, etc.  I didn't find good documentation on this and wanted to know of any other power users for sales accelerator segments to help inform. Thanks.

    Hello Gus,

Understanding Segments in Dynamics 365 Sales Accelerator

    1. Record Re-entry into Segments

Yes, a record can re-enter a segment multiple times. This happens when the record's attributes change to match the segment's criteria again. For instance, if you have a segment for "Opportunities Closed Last Week," and a new opportunity is closed this week, it will enter the segment. If that same opportunity is updated next week to meet the criteria again, it will re-enter the segment and trigger the associated sequence.

    2. Record Removal from Segments

Once a record meets the criteria of a segment and is processed by the associated sequence, it typically remains in the segment until the segment's conditions are no longer met or the record is manually removed. However, the exact behavior can vary depending on the specific segment configuration and any custom workflows or plugins in place.

    Additional Considerations

Segment Criteria: The specific criteria you define for a segment will determine how often records enter and exit the segment.
Sequence Design: The design of your sequences will influence how records are processed and whether they should re-enter the segment after completion.
Segment Priority: If a record meets the criteria of multiple segments, the segment with the highest priority will take precedence.
Manual Removal: You can manually remove records from segments if needed, but this is generally not recommended unless there's a specific reason to do so.

    Best Practices

Clear Segment Criteria: Define clear and specific criteria for your segments to avoid unintended consequences.
Well-Designed Sequences: Create sequences that are efficient and effective, and consider the potential for re-entry into segments.
Monitor Segment Performance: Regularly monitor the performance of your segments and sequences to identify any issues or areas for improvement.
Leverage Advanced Features: Explore advanced features like segment filters, dynamic content, and AI-powered insights to optimize your sales processes.
