What would cause a Search Description to work for one user, but not another?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

When creating a Sales Order, in the subform the user is able to enter the Item No. or the Item Search Description into the No. field and the system will validate either for the Sales Line. This works for one user, but not for another. They are both setup the same in NAV, as SUPER users and have the same Profile set under User Personalization. What would cause this?
Thanks in advance!

The issue was a caused by a modification. The Search Description must be set by the user using the Default Search Column button in the LookUp window. There was a customization in place that opened the Item List instead of the Item lookup, thus not allowing the user to set the Default Search Column to the Search Description. Other users had access to the system before the mod was in place, and had set their Default Search Column, which is why it worked for some users and not others.

    Thanks for all your help!

If so, I suppose it is a customization and you should check how it has been done; are there any specific settings for each user?

It open's up the Item List in it's own window (modular), not a drop down.

    Yes, NAV 2015 CU12.

Are both users using same versions of NAV?

Can it be a matter of default filter column, defined for a certain user. Check the drop-down menu that comes when you press the No. field - there you should see a setting by which column the filtering comes by default for this user.
