Cannot Add File Type Field to Custom Entity in Dynamics 365 Online

When I try adding a "File" field to custom Microsoft Dynamics 365 Online entity through PowerApps, I receive an error as following:

"The entity could not be updated: Attribute of type FileAttributeMetadata cannot be created through the SDK."

File field type is not visible as an option in traditional solution customization form in our sandbox organization.

Does any one know what could be the issue?

Dynamics CRM Online version information:

2020 release wave 1 enabled

Server version: 9.1.0000.17446

Client version: 1.4.710-2004.4

Region: crm4

Hello,

I tried to repro the issue at my end and I was able to create File type field for both OOB and custom entity from Makers portal - https://make.powerapps.com. Can you please share exact repro steps and / or screenshots about what exactly you are doing while add File type field ?

When I click on done and then click on save entity I receive following error.

Thanks for sharing details. Earlier, I was trying under default solution so I tried creating a new solution, added the custom entity and tried adding File type field and it worked for me.

1. If you try to create field from Data > entities > open entity > new field (file type) - Does it work ?

2. Although, you are getting error while creating - Does it actually saves the field or not ?

3. Do you get error in same steps are followed in classic interface ?

You can find corresponding answer below per your question:

1- It doesn't work, it gives the same error

2- It is not saved when I check it after getting error.

3- In classic interface, we don't have File type as a field type, so we cannot add it from there.

Thanks for sharing details. I would suggest to open a support ticket so that we can investigate it further to figure out the problem and fix for it. Also, about 3rd point, you should be able to see and create File data type field so it's strange, why you are not able to see it in classic interface. Here is the screenshot from classic interface -
