Deleting DAT company code in AX 2012

I've read some blog posts warning that company code DAT cannot be deleted but these all related to AX 2009.  We have AX 2012.  Is this still the case?  We have created a new company code and are wondering if we can delete company code DAT.  (We're still working in our test environment.)

I believe it is still the case. Every instance of AX that I have seen has a DAT company. DAT is where common setup information is held, I believe.

That is correct, it is the data that holds the shared information. Simply do not delete it!

The persons above are correct. In addition some AX logic is depending on the existence of this legal entity.

DAT is a required company and cannot be deleted or renamed.

It is used to hold setup information.

I do agree with all the participants here.

DAT is used to hold metadata as base of AX.

if you are sick of looking at it every time, as you open AX, you can  hide it using security on Security Roles.

Except SysAdmin, nobody would be able to see it.

SysAdmin himself can set his/her default company to other than DAT, so he wouldn't face DAT on opening AX

As  all  contributors on this post,  Do not delete DAT.  i might add, avoid doing configurations on DAT, so you would want to setup all your users to have as default legal entity  the new company you created.
