What is the relation between a Legal Entity, Fund, and Department

I am new to AX. We are on AX 2012 R3. I will really appreciate it if you clarify the following-

1. Do funds and Legal Entities have a n X n relationship? Meaning any Legal Entity can post to any fund?

2. Is it possible to have transactions / transfers between funds? If so, then how can you have a complete set of books for a single fund? Do funds transfer posts automatic inter fund entries?

3. Similar to 1 above, do departments and legal entities have a n X n relationship? In other words, can any department post to any legal entity?

4. Do Transaction between companies post automatic inter company transactions to keep the books of both companies in balance?

I will really appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Zeus

RE: What is the relation between a Legal Entity, Fund, and Department

    Hello Zeus,

I have a couple of questions that are related to yours:

    a) Are you using the public sector functionalities for funds?

    b) Do you use funds in relationship to projects as a funding source or do you use them as a financial dimension only?

    For No 1:

Depending on how you use funds you can use as many funds inside a single legal entity as you need. The usage of funds is not limited to a single legal entity though but you always need a legal entity - at least one - to create them.

    For No 2:

If a fund is a findim, then you can transfer money between them. When you post journals there is no transaction type fund available and it therefore depends how you use funds. See a) and b)

    For No 3:

In general yes unless you put some restrictions in place that a department can only be used in some specific legal entities

    For No 4:

In general yes but it depends on the nature of the transaction of where and what you post.

Would be great if you could provide some additional information.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig
