Prevent Item in a Stockkeeping unit from production

Posted on by 60

Hi!

I wonder if it possible to set up a Stockkeping unit that you are not allowed to use in the production?

When we get the delivery of some items from some of the vendors they need to first go through a quality check before we can use the in the production.

My idea is to set up a stockkeping unit that theese items will be placed in firstly, and when they are there they should not be able to be used in production. After the quality check, we will use the Item reclass journal to move them to another stockkeeping unit so they can be used in production.

Do you think this will work? is it possible to set this up? can you think of another solution in standard NAV 2016?

Thank you in advance!

If you are not using Warehouse module, you can create a new location for QC and do the transfer / reclass.

If you have the warehousing module, you can setup the QA Bin Types. Then you can have just one location (warehouse) for all your inventory types. Bear in mind, if you have different locations (warehouses) you will have to do warehouse transfers between them to get the inventory in the right places. If you're really going down the track of Advanced Warehouse ........ Take a good study of the Warehousing module within NAV. It can be pretty robust.

I like the way you're thinking!

    Good Luck!

    Thank you for your answer.

We are not using Advanced Warehouse at the moment, can we set up a QA Bin Type within WMS as you suggest anyway? or can we do it in another way? I see your point about that it doesn't stop the user, which we want it to do.

If you are using "Advanced Warehouse" in NAV, I would suggest setting up a QA Bin Type within WMS. Here are some links to look at.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../design-details-warehouse-setup

    docs.microsoft.com/.../warehouse-how-to-set-up-bin-types

In regards to a stockkeeping unit (Sku) in NAV. These are basically reflecting quantities per location. It doesn't really stop the user from generating a "sales order or pick ticket" to that location. The plan you have above can work, but it will require human intervention. If this is your business model.... Then Go For It!
