    Any data in particular?

Is this in reference to the upgrade process or are you re-implementing?

How customised in the AX2012 system in the areas you are looking to migrate?

What tool are you looking to use through the migration?

    Hi Gopal,

Analyse the required information according to the migration process to D365.

    For example:

How to set up ODBC connection,

    Get the data model,

    Create table mappings,

Using Form Mapping to Extend Mapping.

Start looking at the Data Management options in D365FO which were DMF in AX2012 - how are you extracint the data? Or are you attempting a live ODATA feed?

    On-Prem to Cloud?

    HI Steven,

Any data in particular? -   Configuration, Master data, Open transaction and closed transaction.

Is this in reference to the upgrade process or are you re-implementing? - Upgrading data from AX 2012R3 to D365 F&O

How customised in the AX2012 system in the areas you are looking to migrate? - T&L, Finance and Inventory.

What tool are you looking to use through the migration? - Primarly LCS upgrade tool, and DMT(if DMT tool is available for AX 2013), Not focused on Odata or JSON.

Are there any challenges to setting up ODBC connection and getting Data Model?

    Thanks in advance

If you use the data upgrade tool your entire database is upgraded to D365FO. So you are not going to use DMF / DIXF in that scenario.

    That's one approach.

Another approach is to not bring your old database, instead just bring master data and opening balances. In this case you would manually migrate that data using DIXF.

The first thing to do is to choose which approach you will use.

    Hi Gopal,

For instance,The challenge here is to connect through firewalls to an on-premise database.

With the Azure Service Bus agent, connector and document  connect to your on-premise database.

etc. (Challenges come from different groups of people).

I hope it will help you.

+ there are lots of schema changes in D365FO

    Business wise challenges could span:

    1) Is everything going to be upgraded, if yes, easy, if not then a list must be prepared

    2) Any functionality which is mapped to existing customization and it's data impact

    3) Why and need to bring entire DB, could keep AX2012 for historical reporting and only bring in balances at ledger and subledger level

    Technical level focus areas:

    1) new ways of implementing relationships which is on table than at EDT

    2) Would the DB upgrade be perfect consider everything needs to be in extension

    3) High dependency on code being available in extension world and with same schema

If you are doing upgrade, most probably you are upgrading entire database . So  you might have to write upgrade scripts that is nothing but ReleaseUpdateDB* classes , if you face any schema issues because of renaming fields ,tables ,delete table changing indexes etc..

If you want to go with just master data and opening balances , you should  use data management . The challenge with data management is importing master data if   data volume is large , it may take time.
