What initiates the effective period while entering entries AP, AR and JE's etc into D365 for the closing month. If working in Aug the entries date defaults to the current date. Do we change that date if we want it in the July closing period. What is the process to ensure we are capturing everything in the correct effective period?

Hi,

As Ramit said, it is the user who has to manually select the posting date (System will always default to current date). Based on the selected date system will post transaction to that period.

If you want to have any control for wrong posting, you can put the periods on "Hold" in ledger calendars.

Hi,

To answer your question "What is the process to ensure we are capturing everything in the correct effective period?", its user process that they are accounting in correct period.

The only control which system has to hold the past periods for accounting.
