Remembering User ID's

Posted on by 275

Hello,

I've noticed recently that even on my local install of GP that the Dex INI settings to stop the last user

to default in the Login window have stopped working.

RememberUser=FALSE
DefaultLastUser=FALSE

Has anyone else noticed this?  I have read there is a way to setup user specific Dex INI's

but that seems like a lot to go through and the client would rather it just be blank.  Anyone know how to get

the user ID to be blank?

Thank you

    RE: Remembering User ID's

    Hi Derek Albaugh ,

    Not sure your statement is true...

    So with this, if ‘user 1’ checks this and logs in and ‘user 2’ goes to log in it will automatically log ‘user 1’ in instead of ‘user 2’. If you wanted to change this you could click on the username in the lower left corner of GP (displays the current user) and this will allow you to change the user and uncheck the Remember user and password box.

    This makes no sense to me and I've been using this on many RDS & Citrix servers.. The "Remember user & pwd" values are stored in the registry on a per Windows User profile settings.. Which means that even if 'user1' checks the box to remember ID & pwd, it doesn't mean that user2 will logon with that ID 'user1' in GP..

    At least I've never witnessed that...

    Just an aside.

    GP Power Tools has the Dex.ini Configuration feature which can update any Dex.ini setting in either the global or user level Dex.ini files.

    Before the option to not store the last user was added, we used to use this to clear the last user ID from the Dex.ini file just after login.

    Hi Michelle,

    I've addressed the issue with individual DEX.ini files in my blog post here a few years ago:

    RE: Remembering User ID's

    I was working in GP 18.4 and I did notice that now it seems to be working.  I made the following changes in my Dex

    RememberUser=FALSE
    DefaultLastUser=FALSE
    And then I removed these lines
    SQLLastUser=sa
    GPLastUser=sa
    In testing last week I would log out back in and it seemed to keep returning. But since Monday it seems to stay clear now.
    Thank you for the information Derek.

    Hi Michelle

    What version are you seeing this on?

    I just tested on my installs and it all still works as expected.

    RE: Remembering User ID's

    So the way it works is that there should be a ‘GPLastUser=’ with a value, this changes every time a different user logs in. If ‘user 1’ uses GP and then logs out and ‘user 2’ goes to use GP the auto-filled User ID field will have ‘user 1’ displayed.

    Now this will change if ‘user 2’ logs in and then logs our and ‘user 1’ goes back in to use it. Hopefully that makes sense. Essentially this field makes it remember the most recent user and auto-fills the User ID field with the last user that was logged in.

    With the Enable Remember User option (Tools> Setup> System> System Preferences> Enable Remember User) on and the ‘RememberUser=TRUE’ setting in the Dex.ini this should automatically log in the last user to log in and check the ‘Remember user and password’ box on the login screen.
