New licence Dynamics 365 Finance

Hello,

Two years ago my client migrated to Dynamics 365 Finance, acquiring base licences for Finance and attach licences for Supply Chain Management.

My client's main module is Project Management and Account and now we are informed that to continue using this module it is necessary to purchase the Project Operations license but we do not want to use the Project Operations app.

What does this change of licenses imply?

    Hi Marina,

    Project Operations consists of several parts in Dynamics 365 F&O and also a Dynamics 365 CE based app. When you switch from a Finance to a Project Operations license, the user can perform the same actions. Now in Project Operations, there are no security roles with the license requirement for Operations - Activity. There is only a full PO and a Teams member license.

    Using the Project Operations license, you can still use the project and accounting features in F&O. You are not forced to use the other timesheets or the CE based app.

    But I have a question, if for example a user performs most of his daily work in theProject Management and Account (Project creation, purchase orders, sales orders and their registration in accounting) he will need only the Project license or he could work with the Finance license?

    Hi Marina,

    This depends on the licensing details as part of the list of license requirements per privilege and on the menu items. There is a list with license requirements in the system table LICENSINGSERVICEPLANSPRIVILEGE. If there is no privilege listed, there is a fallback on the menu item settings.

    The PO license also grants access to all team member and activity functionality.

    A quick check from my side learns that maintaining sales orders and purchase orders has an activity requirement. So, this is covered as part of the license here. "Their registration in accounting" is not clear to know what exact features will be used. At least receiving and shipping is an activity license. Posting a sales order invoice belongs to the Dynamics 365 Finance SKU.
