You have to first restore production DB back up on UAT environment. You can use LCS for that . once that is done you can covert  the bacpac file to restore on it your local dev machine. You can  refer below link to get more information about database movements.

I export the Prod .bak file and data restored successfully at my Dev-Machine. But the customization done by Partner is not there. Also as we are now on plateform 28 at UAT, vpc plateform version is 15. How would I be able to upgrade it to latest version.

    Hi Imran,

I think that you have downloaded the wrong VHD.

If you want to create a new development environment, you can refer to the following article.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/dev-tools/access-instances

And if you want to do some iterative development, you can read this article to copy an instance.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/admin/copy-instance

Please let me know if there are any problems .

    Best regards,

    Will

The database doesn't contain any code or metadata. You will get the customizations from source control (Azure DevOps) by configuring workspace in your Visual Studio and getting latest. I hope you are using source control?

The correct sequence is to first setup your workspace and get latest. Then build all custom&ISV code succesfully. Then restore the database. Then do database synchronization.

I recommend you talk with your partner on how to set up the dev system.
