Budgets for Capex procurement

Hi,

We are implementing AX 2012 R3, where are moving from a legacy system to AX.

Current legacy system does budget control on capex purchase too, which became a requirement for AX too.

But as far as my knowledge goes in AX we can only monitor budgets but can't have budget control for Capex purchase.

Anyone has any suggestions on this?

Regards,

Vishal

    Hello Vishal,

You can record fixed asset budget values in the fixed asset module either directly on the fixed asset value model or via the fixed asset budget journal.

Once you have done that you can transfer the fixed asset budget values to the budgeting module. A prerequisite for that is that you have the budget parameter for fixed asset activated and that a default fixed asset budget code is setup.

Given that you can run your ordinary budget control for your fixed assets.

Hint 1: If you budget also for planned fixed asset purchases for which you do not have a fixed asset setup yet => Setup a "dummy fixed asset" that serves the only purpose of holding the fixed asset budget values.

Hint 2: Depending on how detailed you want to control fixed asset Budgets it might be necessary to record and control fixed asset Budget values at the fixed asset Group or even fixed asset Level => This requires a corresponding setup of your account structures in GL and the setup of the dimensions used for budgeting in the budgeting module.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Ludwig ,

What is your suggestion that if the user creates the capex budget against the main accounts instead of FA or FA Group level ? Pls let me know pros and cons ?

What is the main account ( FA main acc or acc. dep acc or dep acc ) need to select in the budget register form ?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello lally,

if you budget fixed assets only at the ledger account level not all standard fixed asset reports might fully be usable. Yet, if you do the reporting in Management Reporter or any analysis tool anyway I cannot see a major disadvantage by just budgeting at the ledger account level.

In regards to the main accounts used; well, if you have details on when you plan fixed asset acquisitions and if you have an idea about the lifetime and depreciation principle, I would certainly record Budgets at the fixed asset acquisition account and also on the fixed asset depreciation account.

    Hope it helps,

    Ludwig
