Hi All,

I would like to ask how can I export item master data into Excel format. I'm planning to putting new item numbers on certain items and then import back to same database. I'm using GP 2018 and SQL 2017.

Thanks and best regards.

Use Smartlist to export your items to Excel and then Integration Manager to import the changes back into GP. However, it sounds like you are trying to modify item numbers so you will need to use the Item Number Modifier in the PSTL to change all the item transactions. If you were to only do the item import/export you would now have new item numbers with no transaction history.

Thanks for your quick reply, Richard.

Actually I have to create many new items by copying most of existing item information. No need for any transaction history for those new items.

I has been suggested to use SQL to export item master table into excel file and modify item information in the file and then use  Tools -> Integrate -> Table Import. However, I have no idea on how to start off.

    Thanks,

    Leo

Yes, using table import is a possibility but you will need extensive knowledge of the underlying database structure.  Do you have Integration Manager or SmartConnect? Why use SQL when a Smartlist will do the export? Just use the Items tab under Inventory in SmartList. Refine your search criteria and click the Excel button.

    Leo,

you can't simply export / import inventory items from a single table with SQL, especially when considering that you're going to create a whole new collection of items..

As Richard pointed out, the Inventory module in GP is quite complex and there are several tables linked with the Item Master table (IV00101) that are fed with data when you create a new item in GP. If you don't own any integration tools like IM (Integration Manager) from Microsoft, or SmartConnect (eOne) or Scribe (Scribe Soft), even have an in-house developer that could leverage the eConnect library or the GP Web Services..

I wouldn't try to create new items this way.. too risky.

Thanks for all your reply, Richard and Béat.

I will try with Integration Manager (IM) though I have no experience in using this before. If fails, even it's painful, I will just copy each item one by one at GP.

Integration Manager is a fairly simple tool and is well suited for what you are trying to do. You can have a comma or tab delimited input file as well as Excel. You will need to choose the destination and then map your fields.

    Noted with thanks.

I'll try IM during the weekend. Hopefully the thread can be closed next week.

It takes time to figure out using Integration Manager. It works well for me. Thanks
