Project Management and Accounting - Posting Dimensions to Debtors/Customer Control

Posted on by 2,401

I am processing a customer invoice in D365, project management & accounting, invoice proposal, and no dimensions are posting/deriving on the transaction. Where are dimensions derived from?

My Account Structure is setup to not allow blanks, on balances sheet dimensions.

    Hi John,

What findims do you actually need for the AR summary account that is determined by the funding source.

This is a balance sheet account and it would be great to know for what reason a findim is needed there.

    Best regards

    Ludwig

In general the financial merge hierarchy is Transaction, Funding source.  Some business documents may have Resource in between these two entities.

Out of the Box you can not configure the order of the merge.  There are 3 party solutions which give you this flexibility.

    Hi David,

thank you for your input. From what Ludwig said is it fair to make the following assumptions with regards to the financial dimensions:

    1) It is not possible to set parameters on where D365 looks for the  financial dimensions between transaction posted, project and funding source? (How does one force D365 to look at the project for the dimensions?)

    2) You are saying that the posting hierarchy is as follows when looking for dimensions.       1--> Transaction      2--> Project     3--> Funding Source?

    Many Thanks,

The contract funding source is always the last dimension merge to the dimension list.

    Hi Ludwig,

Thank you for steering us in the right direction. We have managed to resolve this.

With regard to your comment below:

"The dimensions for the offset revenue account can come from the original transaction posted, the project or the project contract funding source."

The only question I have is how we can potentially change it to the project itself. It currently is drawing from the funding source details. I want it to look at the findims on the actual project?

Your advice is very much appreciated.

    Warm Regards,

    Hi,

Do you have a demo or test system with the same project setup?

Assuming that you have this, then please post some hour, fee, expense and item transactions in this demo / test system and create an invoice proposal. Post it and check the findims used.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig Reinhard,

Thank you so much for your response to our problem.

The project funding source is my customer I want to invoice in this case. And it does have the necessary dimensions on the customer,AR Posting Profile and I also checked customer profiles for in case.

On the project itself there are dimensions as well (Inherited from a main project). I believe this is what it is using for the offset revenue account. How will I confirm this?

    Many thanks,

    Hi,

The dimensions used for the customer summary account, that is the debit posting usually comes from the project contact funding source.

The dimensions for the offset revenue account can come from the original transaction posted, the project or the project contract funding source.

    Best regards

    Ludwig
