how to delete project categories and shared categories?

We need to deactivate a number of old procurement categories.  This part is fine as they do not then appear in the live list for selection.  However we have a one to one ratio of Shared category and Project category for each procurement category which are proving difficult to delete and there are no deactivation options.

I get the following messages:

"Shared category cannot be deleted while dependent Category table exist. Delete dependent Category table and try again" and

"Project category cannot be deleted while dependent items exist.  Delete dependent items and try again"

I have removed all lines of committed cost for the procurement category so it isn't referring to that.

I do not know what the 'dependent items' or the 'category table' is to be able to delete them.  There will of course be lots of history of past completed transactions that I cannot remove.

Any ideas how to remove the shared category or the project category to keep the list of these manageable?

thank you

    Hello AXfinance,

Can you take a look at the released products page?

There is a link that allows entering a project category, which should be removed before you can delete the category.

Would be great if you could test this and provide use some feedback.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

There isn't a corresponding 'released product' for the procurement or project category.  We only have a handful of released products which are mostly of type 'service' as we don't use stock items.

    Hi AXF,

And do those service products have the category linked that you want to delete?

    Best regards,

    Hi AXF,

Can you also check your procurement categories that are setup in the Product Information Management module?

There might be a category linked there.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    thanks Ludwig,

There is indeed a Project category associated to each procurement category in the Product Information module.  I have removed this for good measure, but unfortunately still get the same errors when trying to delete both the project category and the shared category.

    regards

    Hi AXF,

Do you have any pending transaction where the category might be used?

    Hi AXF,

In this case, I would suggest that you talk to a development guy.

They are able to check this error message at a much deeper level and should be able to tell you why things cannot be deleted.

Would be great if you can keep us updated here.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

ok thanks very much for taking a look, it will be some table entry somewhere I'm sure.  If I find the answer I will report back here,

    regards
