Move GP DB to another server and upgrade with a different microsoft account

We have a client who is splitting their businesses and needs access to the same GP DB and has agreed to take a copy of the GP Database.  Currently they are on GP 2013.  I have a test migration server and testing this right now.  I restored GP2013, applied their patch and upgraded to GP 2016.  Entered the registration numbers with the new microsoft license account but I'm running into errors.  The DB is linked to a different microsoft license account and I need to upgrade it and change it.  What is the best way to do this?  Thank you in advance.

I think the issue is not the registration keys for GP as long as the same modules are registered. It is more likely that any ISV products have not been updated for their registration.

Also, all the logins will be broken. I would suggest using the Database Validation tool in GP Power Tools to recreate all the logins and fix the database users for you.

Thank you so much Richard, that was the problem.  The modules checked were incorrect.  I had to disable payroll and manufacturing and some others that the old DB did not have and that took care of the errors.

What errors are you encountering? Did you follow KB878449? Entering new regsitrations keys should not cause errors. Did you check which modules were being used before you changed the registration keys?
