Hi,

How can I change item number for products with existing transactions ? When I try to rename the item number from "Released products" form it works fine as long as I don't have any transactions. When I insert purchase line and then try to rename item number there is message "It is not allowed to rename the Item number"

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Arkadiusz,

Rename item number in record information and it will change item number of all record that use it after renaming it.

I test in PU23, it works fine. But in PU25, it jumps error message that you mentioned.

I will reply to you after confirmation.

I have tested it on PU26 and it doesn't work. The error message is as I wrote.

    Hello Arkadiusz Zimniak,

Can't you simply create a new item?

Renaming is not always a good option especially if subsequent reports/analyses depend on the item number, such as BI reports or other inventory reports that you have run.

If you would like to have a 'clean' and consistent system then creating a new item is always the better option even if there is bit more work related to this.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hello,

You are absolutly right. I know all the limits, especially, that on the old documents (f.e. invoices) suddenly new item id's appear (different than on printed documents at customer site). But I have in past 20 years a lot of cases in AX, when changing itemid was the best solution. Therefore I wonder why Microsoft blocked this functionality and if is it safe to unblock it for given customer.
