Is it better to customize a default Main Form directly, or should I first create a copy of the Main Form and then customize the copy?

When customizing the Lead Main Form, should I first create a copy of the default Main Form, and make the customizations on the copy? After that I would disable the original Main Form, and activate my custom Main Form.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

I recommend you to edit the main form directly because it may have some dependence with other object.

Of course you can make a copy beforehand just in case.

The steps of copy form are as followed.

Thank you. Why would it be better, because of the dependencies? The copy of the form has the same dependencies as the original form.

If you will create a copy of main form then you will have to manager the primary form also.

Like many organization have requirements where they want to show only one main form. So either you have to disable the primary form or needed to remove from respective model driven app.

Sure, I understand that I will have to disable the original Form and then work on the copy, and only show the copy to the user to avoid confusion. What I am trying to understand is, if Microsoft releases updates to Forms (e.g. Lead score or relationship assisstant), how could I apply those updates to my custom copy Form?

    Hi Kiril,

I read: "If the out-of-the-box form is not customized, it will automatically be updated after the installation of release/upgrades coming from Microsoft." somewhere in Microsoft documentation I tried to find that one but had no luck. You must need to confirm it.

I also think that something like this happens. So it would be better to keep the original Microsoft main forms as they are, such that new releases and updates will get applied. And then, I could manually copy those changes to my custom forms.

Would be great to find that reference you mention in the documentation.

    Hello Kiril,

= > It is better to customize the main form as the main form of the lead entity can be used anywhere in Dynamics account like sitemap or model driven app.
= > So it's better to do changes in main form only.
