Destination Settings within Integration Manager

Posted on by 910

When running an integration that has 'Destination Settings' defined in it, does the user still need to be logged into GP? If so, into that company?

Thanks,
Beth

If you are using an eConnect adapter (instead of a standard adapter), then the destination settings define the database (company) that you are integrating with. In that case, you do not need to be logged into Dynamics in order to run the integration.

The standard adapter requires you to be logged in because it is running a macro to accomplish the integration. The user interface is hidden with the integration runs, so you do not see the macro running. You can change this behavior via the .ini file.

The destination settings menu option is used to define connections for adapters that need these settings. None of the standard GP modules required this so the option is dim. GP needs to be open because IM will attempt to process whatever that is being imported just as if someone was typing it in on the corrresponding screen in GP. So it does not matter what the source is, the destination will be a module in GP in the company in which you are logged. If you look in the IM user's guide and search for destination settings you will find a more complete explanation.

I'm asking about the 'Destination Settings' window not the 'Destinations Mapping' window.

The Destination Setting window has a feid to enter the server name and company db.

The destination mappings are the for the modules to which you want to write. Ledger, Payables, Receivables, Payroll and then the type of information within each. It has nothing to do with the company to which you are trying to write. That will be the company in which you are currently logged.

What is the purpose of using the 'Destination Settings' within Integration Manager?

You need to be logged in a company in order to run an integration. IM will import data into the company and only to that company. There is no way to run IM without having GP open and logged into a company.
