AX 2012 R3 and Outlook 64 bit syncrhonization (MAPI)

We are installing Office onto our Terminal Server and have noticed the following documented (February 2015) in the installation manual regarding Outlook 64 bit integration/synchronization...  Regarding possible MAPI problems with 32 bit applications.

As the Hotfix indicated was for AX 2012 R2 I assume that it's not a problem to install Outlook 64 bits for an AX 2012 R3 system.

However, we have the following error:

“No se puede comunicar con el cliente de Microsoft Office Outlook”

Translation "Cannot connect to Microsoft Office Outlook client"

    Your help is greatly appreciated, RamK.  We suggested the steps indicated in the blog to our client and instead they decided to install Office 32 bits for the following reasons:

    • AX2009 is 32 bits (what we are migrating from)
    • AX2012 is 32 bits
    • Other applications that they work and integrate with office are 32 bits.  These may fail with Office 64 bits.
    • The whole application set works pefectly well on Win 8.1, a 64 bit OS.

    Finally I should add that all of our other AX 2012 client installations have Office 64 bits installed.  I don't recall any of them that use the Outlook synchronization functionality, however.
