Hello all,
I'm new to NAV and try to understand BI integration in Dynamics.
Can someone just give me a small overview what is possible in NAV?
It seems that NAV in first is restricted to direct reporting on transactional tables and the built-in analytic views, right? Can I utilize SQL Analysis Services? Are there any packaged cubes or third party implementations?
Thanks in advance!

you are right,
no predefined cubes and no integration for etl, DW, etc., only suggested implementation scenarios in BI for NAV MS whitepaper.
use jet reports, power pivot or external solutions
look at this nice Contoso datawarehouse demo for retail industry
(the only one standard Microsoft BI Demo available)
"The Contoso BI Demo dataset is used to demonstrate DW/BI functionalities across the entire Microsoft Office product family. This dataset includes C-level, sales/marketing, IT, and common finance scenarios for the retail industry and support map integration. In addition, this dataset offers large volumes of transactions from OLTP and well-structured aggregations from OLAP, along with reference and dimension data"
So that means there are no predefined cubes für SQL Analysis Services!
I've read the MS whitepaper for BI based on NAV. They highlight a scenario with Analysis Services, but they don't provide any cubes?
If so, are there any third party implementations out there?
Hi
Standard dynamics NAV (NAV 2013 R2) can do,
1. Write Quarry and run through power pivot function in Excel. its good analytic facility.
2. Each and every module of NAV has analysis facility using system data( Sales & marketing--> reporting & analysis--> analysis reports)
You can create your own report using analysis reports.
3. Using excel you can you can analyse yous database data (data--> from other sources)
4. Try jet reports. Using jet reports you can generate various kind of analysis repors
