Released Product - Company specific item number/search name

When a new released product is created directly, the user is able to specify company specific item number and search name. This company specific item number will be used for transactions. When the shared product is created and manually released to each company, the user is not given an option to specify company specific item number or search name. Thus it seems like the company specific information is only available if you create the released product directly in that company.

Is there functionality to specify company specific information when releasing that shared product to other companies? If not what is the point of specifying company specific information when it is only available for the initial company?
