General navision and gp query

Hi, we have developed integrations for multiple accounts package using our api.

We are looking at gp and nav and wanted your opinion:

1. As far as add-ons are concerned, do most nav/gp clients download and set these up without help or do they generally rely on a dynamics partner to do it? Just curious as we are looking to build an add-on

2. compared to other packages are add Ons using their api generally considered to be challenging to build or no.

Thanks

    Hi,

as somebody who is developing AddOns... I'm not sure that the model Microsoft wants to have will work, or that I want to find out if it works (and go bankrupt trying). *Real life* NAV AddOns need some integration by a NAV partner into the customer's application. Haven't seen anything that works out of the box after downloading, yet.

Part of the reason for this is the nature of the application, and its code structure. It is not object oriented or layered with strict public APIs, when business logic is concerned. There are strict (public) APIs. However, part of the AddOn almost always modifies "standard" NAV code, and this alone leads to complications when you have more than one AddOn to consider. The C/SIDE programming interface doesn't really fit well with this. So, if you need C/AL for your AddOn: No download and click to go.

    with best regards

    Jens

    Hi sumit

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

We ae looking at developing an add on or app and will use a navision/gp partner to make it. We will then try and sign up clients to download and use it on their packages.

With packages like sap business 1, etc we can instruct the client on how to download the app so it appears on their accounting package. Very simple.

For dynamics will we really have to ask the client to get their dynamics partner to spend hours logging in and adding this to their package? If so there is little point in us building it for dynamics ad clients just don't have that time.

I don't think it will initially be certified

Please understand the process for addon, the certified addon by Microsoft has a specific protected range of objects. if you fel that you have a specific addon which is unique you should register with Microsoft for it.

In case of adding the addon to the base product you will require developer license, if you do not have one the partner will certainly have so will help you doning the connection of addon to the base procust
